A Connected Community
Project type
1st Year of Master's - Final Project
Location
Newhaven
Motivated by the findings of my small architecture project, 'Newhaven Pavilion's.' My final-year project expands on this concept by proposing a more permanent intervention in the heart of Newhaven. It seeks to revive community spirit and encourage people to return to the town by introducing infrastructure that links existing buildings and activates under-utilised spaces, creating stronger connections to the wider area, encouraging spontaneous interaction, and reflects the town’s local identity. These spaces are intended to foster conversations that may not typically occur, while supporting activities that benefit both the individuals who use them and the local environment. Ultimately, the project aspires to serve as a model for how small, often overlooked towns can come together, voice their concerns, and work with architects to reimagine and revitalise their existing townscape.
This project was awarded the Brighton Architecture Diary Community Impact Award after being nominated for its contribution to community-focused design.
